Special Needs Blog Hop

Ok here we go, I've never done this before and I'm ready to blow my amature status!

This blog hop is about accomplishments and I have a BIG one to share.

Piper recently had a dental appointment. It's been a full year since her last one because it was so horrible for both of us and we got little accomplished. This visit it was a whole new ball game. My baby has new skills and tools to use, her language has blossomed and she can communicate her needs and wants with out any help from Mom. She was engaged, compliant and didn't need the half dozen or so supports and modifications I had planned or brought.  She got her xrays and her teeth cleaned. She asked questions. YES questions! Which is an accomplishment all on it's own.  She loved seeing her xrays (although she was a bit disappointed that we couldn't get pics of her whole body).

We both left the Dental office smiling and happy. Stress FREE!

  1. Wow, congratulations! Awesome dental appointment. I dream of getting there some day -- we count ours as good when we get a teeth-polishing in, but it does (alas) entail holding Joy down in the chair.

My first participation in this blog hop too!

  3. Nice! Will doesn't bite anymore but I'll admit that I always get nervous when I see someone put their hand inside his mouth. (Blog hop)

  4. That is awesome. That is great about her asking questions. I have to fight mine to get him to go to the dentist. He does well when he goes though for the most part. Thanks for joining us in the Special Needs Blog Hop.

  6. That's awesome!! We've been going to the dentist for what, 6 years now? And this last time we went is the first time they were able to take xrays; he just refused to hold that metal thingy in his mouth. Can't really blame him, though.

  11. Hmmm, this is only your first time? I think you've done great :)

I remember being so nervous about my bird's first dental appointment. She was a champ. Of course, they're not fun, but she totally gets through them!

I can't wait until my bird starts asking questions. It's a HUGE step!!

  14. Well, hello, and that is wonderful news. We went through three dentists all of which said they dealt with special needs children. He bit all of them, but I warned them not to just stick their hands in his mouth. We finally found a great dentist and my son loves him. The first couple times was rough but now he takes it like a pro. Glad it worked out for you too.
